Patrick C. Bauer
President and Chief Executive Officer at Heartland Dental
In the last issue of Smiling, I discussed how creating value for supported dentists is a focus for Heartland Dental in 2016. Since then, we have continued to move forward with this goal. We have established Homeroom (as you will read about more in this issue), an all-encompassing learning management system for supported dentists and team members that will further our commitment to continuing education. We have also made advancements with our IT and supply procurement support.
Another valuable initiative Heartland Dental continues to support is the Doctor Mastery Program, which will help dentists become definitive dental leaders in their communities and overcome many of the modern challenges they face (meeting the needs of modern patients, keeping up with modern technology, etc.). Upon completion of the five-year program, participating dentists may be eligible to achieve a Fellowship with the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD, a designation held by only about five percent of practicing dentists in the United States) and increase access to care for their patients. Those who possess FAGD designation will work to become a Master with the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD, an award held by only about two percent of practicing dentists in the United States).
Clinically, the educational opportunities offered are designed to enhance participant growth in key areas, from fundamentals to more advanced areas such as IV sedation, oral surgery, implants, restoration, occlusion, orthopedics and orthodontics. Personally, the program will help participants set goals, minimize taxes, create personal finance plans, maintain fiscal responsibility at home and work, plan for reality and eventualities, know the difference between good debt and bad debt and invest in themselves.
Supported dentists are not the only ones who have the opportunity to advance themselves. Heartland Dental is currently working on a program designed to help supported dental team members advance themselves personally and professionally – the Team Mastery Program. I can’t say much about this program just yet, but we’re extremely excited to see the impact it will have on supported team members and in turn, their patients. Stay tuned for more info!
